0:00Hey it's Tim here, today I'm going to do
0:01another chart in under two minutes, today
0:03it's the tree
0:04map. Let's get stuck in. So I'm going to
0:06grab the measure that I'm using and drag it
0:08and put it on
0:09size. Note that the chart type is set to
0:11automatic, we'll come back to that at the
0:13very end. The next
0:14thing we'll do is we'll drag category onto
0:17color, this will break our tree map down
0:18into three
0:19different categories, each with its own
0:21color. I don't like the red and orange in
0:23here so I'm
0:23going to change this, select edit colors on
0:26the top right hand side, go down to another
0:28palette,
0:28let's choose purple, pink and gray, assign
0:31the palette, hit apply and boom we have our
0:33palette
0:33ready to go. Now the other thing I can do
0:36here is I can add some labels to this to
0:38make this a
0:39little bit more interesting. So I'll go
0:41ahead and drag category again onto labels
0:43and sales onto
0:44labels. You can also use the shortcut to
0:46hold a control or command on the mac and
0:49drag those
0:50things onto label again but this is
0:51perfectly fine, it works really quickly.
0:54Now the next thing
0:54we can do with this hierarchy is that we
0:56can break this down, note that the
0:58hierarchy is this product
0:59one here on the left and if I just hit the
1:01plus next to category you'll see that this
1:03tree map
1:03expands and so we can keep expanding it
1:05until we get this level of detail. We've
1:07gone three levels
1:08down into hierarchy and it looks great. Now
1:11the thing to notice here is that Tableau is
1:13sorting
1:14this tree map in the order that we've added
1:16dimensions on the left, it starts with
1:17category
1:18then subcategory then manufacturer. So if
1:21we drag manufacturer to the top it will
1:23start with
1:23manufacturer and it will rearrange our tree
1:25map and make it work a little bit better to
1:28suit the
1:28specific order that we've set up here. So
1:30if I then drag subcategory above category
1:32then the
1:32category will actually go down to the
1:34lowest level and so that's how this is
1:36working. So that's a tree
1:38map in a nutshell, really super super quick
1:40and easy. Now the one thing to bear in mind
1:42is that
1:42we've had automatic selected on the marks
1:45pane all this time. If we switch it to a
1:47square you'll see
1:49nothing changes because that is also the
1:51same type that we need for a tree map.
1:53However if you want
1:54a bubble chart switch it to a circle and
1:56there you go you have another chart for
1:58free in the
1:59two-minute video. Thanks for watching and I
2:00'll catch you in the next one.
2:01you
