0:00In Tableau 2020.1, Tableau have added the
0:04ability to add custom suggestions in the
0:07Ask
0:07Data interface. Let me show you how to get
0:10there. I'm just going to hit "Explore" and
0:12go to one of
0:12the data sources that I use quite often. It
0:15's the SuperStore data source. I'm going to
0:18click
0:18"All data sources" there. You'll see I just
0:20have the one on my test environment. I'm
0:22going to click
0:22on that and then we arrive at the Ask Data
0:25interface. That's almost a default landing
0:27page you see here. We can notice something
0:30new straight away. If you look over here,
0:32I have this pencil icon next to this group.
0:35This is some of the custom capability that
0:37Tableau have added. I can actually remove
0:40some of these suggestions if I want to. If
0:42they don't make
0:43sense, I can actually remove them and I can
0:46actually add them or edit my own ones to
0:48make
0:49it much, much easier for people to find
0:51their own questions. You can see here that
0:53they're grouped
0:54by different attributes. Looking at things
0:57like filters, date and time, you can
1:00actually come in
1:00here and customize some of those and even
1:03choose the different map types that you've
1:05got available
1:06to you. I don't like pie charts, so the
1:08first thing we can do straight away is just
1:11to get rid
1:12of that one because who would ever want to
1:14use a pie chart? Not me. That's that fix
1:17that's
1:17immediately made things a lot better. If I
1:19go back down to the basic data analysis
1:23section,
1:24I can actually remove this question by
1:26state or I can just start typing inside of
1:29the square and I
1:30can say maybe do this by region because
1:32region makes more sense and you can see it
1:34auto completes
1:35that. Now that suggestion is much, much
1:38better. I can just start typing sum of
1:42sales
1:42and then I could say buy and it should have
1:46a little bit of a think of it and as I
1:49start typing
1:50R it should try and sort of auto complete
1:53but I think my version of Tableau is being
1:55a little
1:55bit slow and now if I hit enter you can see
1:59that it's broken those queries down into
2:02two simple
2:03queries and it's now able to do that. When
2:06I'm done I can obviously take these views
2:09and start
2:10working with them in WebEdit or I can
2:12simply close this and go back to my view
2:15where I was
2:16having a look at these data sources and
2:18just you keep on using ask data to browse
2:20this.
2:21Okay that's pretty much the feature in a
2:22nutshell it's very, very simple quality of
2:24life improvement
2:25for ask data but very much worthwhile to
2:27help those suggestions be a little bit
2:29smarter but
2:30also lead users in the right direction in
2:32terms of questions they can ask and
2:34questions they can't
2:35ask. If you've enjoyed this video hit the
2:38like button hit subscribe and if not well
2:40drop me a
2:40comment below let me know what kind of
2:42content you'd like to see instead that's
2:44always very
2:44useful feedback. Okay, thanks for watching,
2:46and I'll catch you in the next one.
