0:00Hey, Tim here. In 21.4, one of the headline
0:02features was the ability to send
0:04notifications
0:05to Slack from AskData. So in this video, I
0:07'm going to show you how that works.
0:09Now, I'm actually logged into two profiles
0:11here. I'm logged in as the user who's going
0:13to receive
0:14the notification in Slack. That's this
0:16particular profile. And over here, I'm
0:18logged in as an admin,
0:19someone who can send notifications to
0:21everyone on Slack. So I'm basically going
0:23to do this here.
0:24The reason I've got this setup is because I
0:25've got a beta instance of Tableau Online,
0:27so I can only really test using those two
0:28people. Nevertheless, if you head to Ask
0:30Data,
0:31in this particular case, I'm going to go to
0:33the Explore tab. And I'm going to look for
0:35an AskData
0:36lens. In a previous release, they changed
0:38the behavior of AskData so that it requires
0:40a lens
0:41in order to create an AskData question. So
0:43I've actually got one here set up for 21.4,
0:46which I've
0:46called 21.4 lens. Now, once we're here, we
0:49can actually go ahead and type the question
0:51we want
0:51to answer. In this particular case, I'm
0:54just going to type "busiest day in 2018."
0:59Now, what you'll see
1:00here is that Tableau passes this question.
1:02So it says "Count of orders by order dates
1:05day,
1:05order date in 2018." So if we go ahead and
1:08hit Enter for that, that should hopefully
1:11give us a
1:12chart in response. It might get this
1:13slightly wrong, but you can see here that
1:15it's given us
1:15an order date for 2018. And we can get the
1:18answer right here and say, "Look, it's
1:20September the 8th,
1:222018." And there's 27 orders on that
1:23particular day. Now, once we're here, and
1:26we've got this,
1:26let's say we want to share this with a
1:28colleague to Slack. It's actually going to
1:30send it to
1:30multiple places, so email notifications in
1:33Tableau and Slack as well, if you've
1:35enabled
1:35the notifications. But if I go to the top
1:37right here and I hit Share, you'll see that
1:39you get
1:40this ability to share a message. I'll just
1:42go ahead and type in my name. You'll see I
1:43have
1:44multiple profiles here. So I'll send it to
1:45this particular user because this is the
1:47user I actually
1:48have set up on Slack. And I'll just say, "
1:51Hey, check this out. You might be interested
1:55to know
1:55we had 27 orders on the 27th of..." No, we
2:00had it on, I think it was the 8th of
2:03September,
2:03actually, September. I can't type. Ap
2:06ologies for any typos that's in there. But
2:09let's go ahead and
2:09hit Share. And once we hit Share, you'll
2:11see that that goes off. And now what we
2:13should do is we
2:14should get a notification in Slack. Now, I
2:16know I've got the notification because my
2:17watch just
2:18pinged me. So if I head over to Slack, let
2:19's just open that up, you'll see that over
2:21here,
2:21I have this notification here from 906 p.m.
2:24And it says to me that, "Look, hey, check
2:27this out.
2:27You might be interested to know we had 27
2:29orders on the 8th of September." When I go
2:31ahead and click
2:32on this link, it actually opens up. And the
2:34reason I'm logged in as my other user is
2:35when I click on
2:36that link, I need to be logged in as that
2:38user to see the notification. So here it is
2:41. This is the
2:41Ask Data View that was built by the other
2:43user. And now I can go and see it. And I
2:45can actually
2:46carry on asking my own questions. So I can
2:48actually carry on the analysis that someone
2:50else started
2:51if they share that with me. Now, that
2:53notification comes to me via email and from
2:55Tableau itself.
2:56If I hop out of this from this particular
2:58user, let's just actually go back to the
3:00homepage.
3:01Let's just completely reset everything. If
3:03I go to the notifications here, you'll see
3:05that that
3:06same notification is also here at the top.
3:08So if I go ahead and click on that, that
3:10also takes me
3:11back to that notification. And it actually
3:13has an ID number that then disappears. I
3:15don't know if
3:16anyone saw that up here in the URL. If you
3:19didn't notice that, I'll put it up on
3:21screen in slow
3:22motion so you can see it. But nonetheless,
3:24it actually has an ID that's hidden and
3:25then gets
3:26removed so you can't actually figure out
3:28where it is. I think that's maybe a
3:30deliberate thing. So
3:31these don't sort of spawn a life of their
3:33own and just keep getting shared around.
3:35But nonetheless,
3:36this is pretty cool. This is a new feature
3:37in 21.4 and I just wanted to show you how
3:39it works. Check
3:40out more of the videos I've done on 21.4
3:42and there's a whole bunch of them out there
3:43to see.
