The new viz toolbar: New in Tableau 2022.1

I didn't realise how passionate I was about UX until I started recording this toolbar walkthrough.

Part ofWhat's new in Tableau 2022.1
  • The old congested top banner has been inverted so the toolbar now sits lower with the breadcrumbs and device layout moved to the top
  • Actions are grouped into clearer sections, with 'Watch' holding subscriptions, metrics and alerts (I argue 'Track' would be a clearer verb)
  • Download now consolidates image, data, crosstab and PDF export in one place, though the icons are still not intuitive
  • Left-hand controls (forward/back, reset, pause, refresh, replay animations, accelerated views) only got new icons rather than functional changes
  • The new Data Details side pane and inconsistent modal-versus-side-panel behaviour highlight UX habits that aren't rewarded consistently

Tableau release Notes: With so many innovations coming into Tableau, it’s time to introduce a new viz toolbar that will help you find all the out-of-the-box functionality through helpful tooltips and logical groupings. We offer an intuitive and great-looking experience to enhance your dashboard navigation in Tableau Online and Tableau Server. The new toolbar also supports embedding for your external applications. The available functionality within the toolbar will vary based on the user’s access level.
