0:00When Tableau Prep came to the browser and
0:01we got WebEdit for Tableau Prep,
0:03one of the features we wanted to see in Web
0:05Edit for desktop was auto-saving.
0:08This is now possible in 22.2. Let's get
0:11stuck in.
0:11Now I've literally just come off a
0:13recording about the new formatting
0:14capabilities,
0:15hence you can see the formatting is awful
0:17on this dashboard at the moment.
0:19But what I want to highlight is this draft
0:21option here at the top.
0:23You can see that it says draft because
0:24essentially I'm working on this and what I
0:26'm going to do is
0:27I'm just going to open up a new tab and I'm
0:28not going to save anything here.
0:30I'm just going to go ahead and go over to
0:32the right-hand side, go to online.tableau.
0:34com.
0:34This should log me back into the same
0:36instance of Tableau.
0:38In fact, it's going to want me to sign in
0:39again just to make sure that I'm still in
0:42the same
0:42session. And when I do that, I arrive here
0:45and what I'm going to do is just close this
0:47tab
0:47and we're not going to save it. We're not
0:49going to hit publish. We're not going to do
0:50anything.
0:50Now that that's happened, what we can do is
0:53we can try and see if we can go back to
0:54that work
0:55and see if it saved an autosave draft. Now
0:58to find that workbook, what I'm going to
1:00need to do
1:00is find the workbook called Superstore and
1:02I'll just go ahead and select that over
1:04there.
1:05And when I go to it, you'll notice at the
1:06very, very top, there is this big fat tab
1:10that says
1:10draft. You edited this workbook four
1:12minutes ago. This is while I was recording
1:14the video about
1:15formatting. And so what I can actually do
1:17is hop right back into that, continue
1:19editing, and it
1:20should pick up exactly where I left off
1:22with all that horrible formatting on screen
1:25. Now let's just
1:25wait for this to load and see what happens.
1:28Now what it's actually done is not, it's
1:30not, it's not
1:30picked up exactly where I left off. It's
1:32actually dropped me in another tab. But if
1:34I go back to
1:35this particular tab, I think it sells by
1:37products too, we can actually see exactly
1:39what was going
1:40on. So it's nearly there. It might've just
1:42been that it didn't have a chance to save
1:44the exact
1:45spot in the session where I was. But
1:47nonetheless, the draft is saved. Everything
1:49that I'd just done
1:50with the formatting is there. And now if I
1:52wanted to go ahead and save this, I can
1:54absolutely go
1:55ahead and do that. Hit publish. And this
1:57will go up to the server and will overwrite
1:59the existing
2:00piece of work. So you'll see that it's
2:02publishing at the moment, just over here at
2:05the top right
2:05hand side. And as soon as that publish is
2:08done, you'll notice that you lose that
2:10draft status that
2:11was over here at the top with Superstore
2:13because at this very moment, I haven't made
2:15any changes.
2:16I've saved over the existing work, which
2:17means there is no draft. There doesn't need
2:19to be one
2:19because there's no change been made. Now,
2:22if I then go ahead and change something
2:24here, let's
2:24change this background color to black, make
2:27it even worse. You'll see that the draft
2:29status comes
2:30immediately back right there. And yeah, we
2:32're back into draft status. And now if I
2:34close this run off,
2:35I forget to do anything. Draft will still
2:38be there. So that's autosave in Web edits
2:41is really
2:41nice to have. About time we've had this in
2:43Tableau prep for a long time. So it's good
2:45to get parity
2:45across the product. Thanks for watching,
2:48and I'll catch you in the next video.
