Tableau length function calculates the length of roads, gps traces, rivers & more #tableau #data

0:00In 23.2 Tableau have added a new spatial

0:02function called the length function.

0:04If I hover over this body of water here,

0:06Dulles Brook and Upper Brent, you can see

0:09that it's calculated the length of this

0:11water body to be 10.56 miles.

0:14To use this function, it's simply a

0:16calculation.

0:17If I go over to the data pane, I can open

0:19up this calculation, hit edit,

0:21and you can see here that the calculation

0:23is super simple.

0:24You just essentially type in length, you

0:26give it the geometry.

0:27In this case, it's only going to work for

0:29lines or multi lines.

0:30And then you give it the distance,

0:32essentially miles, feet or kilometers.

0:34Hit apply and there you go.

0:36You have your length for any particular

0:38line, geometry, object.
