Tableau 2020.2: Improved crosstab export

0:03quality of life when it comes to exporting

0:06from a cross tab on Tableau server or Table

0:08au online. Let's take a look and see how

0:10that's done.

0:11Right now I'm looking at the Superstore

0:13workbook. I uploaded this earlier on in one

0:15of my other

0:15videos about workbook upload. I actually

0:18uploaded this from my desktop directly to

0:20Tableau server.

0:21Now what I'm going to do is I'm going to

0:23click into the overview view. That's a bit

0:26of a tongue

0:26twister. But anyway we're here in this view

0:28and what typically used to happen, let's

0:30say I wanted

0:31to download some data from this particular

0:34view. I'd hit download and you'd see here

0:36that the cross

0:37tab option would be grayed out a bit like

0:39my data and it kind of made it confusing

0:41because for most

0:42people they weren't aware that what they

0:44needed to do was to first select a chart

0:46before hitting

0:47the cross tab option. So if I just show you

0:49that with this data option what you used to

0:51have to do

0:52is to actually click on the chart. You get

0:54no feedback on the screen to say that you

0:56've clicked

0:57that. Then hit download and then you can

0:59see here that the data option is available

1:01for me to click.

1:02What Tableau have done is they've actually

1:05made that much much easier now. So if I

1:07just hit

1:07download I don't have to have selected

1:10anything and then I select cross tab I

1:12actually get this

1:13interface to choose the sheet that I want

1:15to download the data from. Now this is

1:18really

1:18important if you're a dashboard author

1:20because if the user sees this and like me

1:22you're a bit

1:23lazy with naming your sheets this is just

1:25going to say sheet 1, sheet 2, sheet 150,

1:29sheet 35,

1:30and so on and so forth. So you must must

1:32must must name your sheets accordingly

1:35otherwise this is

1:36going to look awful for the user. But

1:38anyway here I am I've selected the second

1:40sheet here,

1:41sales by product category which is this

1:43chart we can just see here. I'm going to

1:46hit download

1:46and it will download an excel file you'll

1:49see it here it's actually a csv file and

1:52then I'll open

1:52it in excel and this is exactly what you

1:55get to see. It's actually done some

1:57formatting for

1:58negative values here so you can see those

2:00right out of the gate but that's pretty

2:02much it that's

2:03the feature in a nutshell it's just a

2:04quality of life improvement for a feature

2:06that already
