0:00Hey, it's Tim here. And in this video, this
0:01is actually a shortened version of a much
0:03longer video I've done explaining how to
0:05build and work with set actions and set
0:08controls.
0:09In this video, I've jumped right to the
0:11very end of the content. So I've basically
0:13already built out this map which shows the
0:16difference in prices and averages across
0:18London.
0:19Now, it's already using a capability called
0:21set actions. If you're familiar with set
0:23actions, you already know how this works.
0:25If I make a selection, it changes the
0:27context of my visualization and the price
0:29differential is now being compared against
0:32this one, E17.
0:34And if I hover around, you can actually see
0:36the tooltip updates to show you the
0:37differences in the different prices.
0:40In 2020.2, what Tableau have done is have
0:43actually created a filter control that
0:45allows you to select these rather than
0:47having to select an item on the chart.
0:49So you get like a filter with the same
0:51options as a filter that you can use to
0:53select these items.
0:55So let's look and see how to do that. First
0:57thing we need to do is actually add the out
0:59code set to the filters pane.
1:01And by doing that, we're then able to call
1:03it in the dashboard.
1:05So I'm just going to click on this drop
1:06down here and I'm going to make sure it
1:08shows the in and out of set.
1:10And I'm just going to use the all function
1:12here because I'm not too worried about sort
1:14of the selection at the moment.
1:16Then if I go back to my dashboard and then
1:19bring this drop down, you'll see we have
1:22this new option here for sets.
1:24And in there you'll see in out of out code
1:26set. And basically, if you select that, you
1:29get this set control.
1:31And now watch what happens when I click and
1:33use a set action. It both changes the
1:36visualization, but it also automatically
1:38updates this filter.
1:40And so that obviously means that I can use
1:42this filter to change my selections. You
1:44can see here if I select the 16, 15, 14, 13
1:48, the chart is changing to sort of adapt to
1:51my selection.
1:52And the beauty of this is that I can use
1:54filter like controls in order to do this.
1:57I don't have to worry too much about you
1:59interacting with the chart.
2:01So where interaction is slightly cumbersome
2:03, you can actually give users really precise
2:06controls they're used to and more
2:07specifically on mobile devices.
2:10This is a great way of making that
2:11interface much, much easier to use because
2:14the filter controls are optimized for
2:17mobile devices.
2:18OK, that's the feature in a nutshell. This
2:20is a much, much, much shorter video on this
2:23topic.
2:24I've done a full breakdown of how to build
2:26this chart, how to use set and how to use
2:28the set control.
2:29It's about a 25 minute video. I really
2:31apologize. It's that long.
2:33And so go check that out if you really want
2:35to get down with the nitty gritty of how
2:37this works.
2:38Otherwise, if you like this video, hit the
2:39like button, hit subscribe, or I'll catch
2:41you in the next video.
2:43Thank you.
