Data Pane Enhancements: New in tableau 2022.3

0:00In 22.3 there's a couple of quality of life

0:02improvements to the data pane that I'm

0:04going to show you.

0:05The first one is a new shortcut to make it

0:07easier to create a measure from a dimension

0:10. So I'm using

0:11a max, I'm going to hold command on Windows

0:13it's control. So I'll go over here and you

0:15can see the

0:16ship mode item. Now typically what you used

0:18to have to do is if you drag ship right

0:19across,

0:20you'd see it changes it to a measure by

0:22doing a count distinct and then you drag it

0:24across.

0:24But sometimes you don't want to do that,

0:26sometimes you just want to create a

0:27duplicate. So what you'd

0:28have to do is previously right click

0:30duplicate and then drag the copy across and

0:33then that would

0:34become the measure you'd use. In 22.3 you

0:36don't have to do any of that, what you can

0:38actually do

0:39if I just go back one is if you start

0:41dragging ship mode and then as you're

0:43dragging it hold

0:44the command or control on Windows and just

0:46drop it over the dimensions and measures

0:48line you'll see

0:49that it creates a copy here ship mode copy

0:51count distinct and the ship mode item is

0:53still up there.

0:54So you can then drag this in and here in

0:56the ship mode we only have four distinct

0:58items so that's

0:59what we're going to see. So that's the

1:01first feature here a modifier to allow you

1:04to copy

1:04a dimension as a measure just by holding

1:07control or command if you're on a Mac. Now

1:10the next feature

1:11is a little bit more subtle it doesn't

1:13appear as nicely as the animation suggests

1:16but nonetheless

1:17it's a nice new feature. Now here at the

1:18very very top you can see I already have a

1:20folder called

1:21ship date and why I've scrolled down is

1:23because this new feature will automatically

1:25scroll the

1:26window up so you can see that folder when

1:28you change it. So what I'll do here is I'll

1:31take my

1:31days to ship calculation this should also

1:33be in the main folder because that's where

1:35I'm storing

1:36all my shipping items. I'll go ahead down

1:38here and you'll see the folders option I

1:40can add it to the

1:40main folder and when I do that the data

1:43pane jumps up to where the measure is and

1:45that is the feature

1:46that's a feature in a nutshell it's just

1:48simply just moving the window up so you don

1:50't have to

1:50go and scroll and fish around previously it

1:52didn't do that it didn't actually move

1:54around with the

1:54calculation so and that's uh that's it that

1:56's that's pretty much it to this video there

1:58's not

1:59much more to show these are really quality

2:01of life improvements they're not features

2:03as yet they're

2:04they're sort of refinements to things that

2:06we've known for a long time but I would

2:07argue this is

2:08two things that have been on that sort of

2:11uh please do this tableau list for a while

2:13they're

2:14not exactly what everyone's asking for but

2:15they're you know they're they're they're

2:17pretty much

2:18starting to address some of these small

2:20things that we've wanted for a long long

2:21time and I for

2:23one I'm grateful these are going to be good

2:24shortcuts to teach people so when they're

2:26using

2:27tableau for the first time they know the

2:28difference between these things so yeah
