0:00Data quality warnings are such a useful
0:01feature in Tableau. It allows you to
0:03communicate issues
0:04with your data throughout the data pipeline
0:07to upstream and downstream assets. Here you
0:09can see
0:10I've got a data quality warning right on my
0:12dashboard before I even go in and when I
0:14open
0:14up the dashboard I even get this pop-up
0:16here to tell me there's a data quality
0:18warning but
0:19in 22.3 there's something different about
0:21this quality warning. If we open up the
0:23details
0:24and just wait for it to pop up I'll move my
0:26face to the left hand side here. If I click
0:28on this
0:28warning you'll see this data quality
0:31warning is on a column. Yes in 22.3 you can
0:35add column level data
0:36quality warnings. How do you do this? Well
0:39let me show you. So if I move my face back
0:41to the right
0:41hand side and I go back to the Superstore
0:43dataset and the workbook here you can see
0:46that you've got
0:46various tabs from views, data sources,
0:49connected metrics all the way down to
0:50lineage. Now to see
0:52this lineage tab you do need to have the
0:54data management add-on enabled. It's no
0:56longer called
0:57an add-on it's just called Tableau data
0:59management. It used to be called an add-on
1:01it is an add-on
1:02let's just work with that. So when I click
1:04on lineage you'll see you get this little
1:06drop-down.
1:06Now what this lineage feature does is if I
1:08just move my face out of the way again let
1:10me put it
1:10up here out the way you see a sort of a
1:13stream of information basically going from
1:16the highest level
1:17asset which is going to be a database all
1:19the way down to the lowest level asset
1:20which is typically
1:21the owner of the particular asset that you
1:23're looking at. So here you have one owner
1:26who has
1:26uh potentially owns all the metrics dash
1:29boards and sheets in this particular lineage
1:31flow
1:31and then here we're actually at the Super
1:33store dataset level. Now when I had a look
1:35at this the
1:36first time I had a real sort of challenge
1:38because here you can see that I have no
1:39ability to sort of
1:40set actions on these column levels and if I
1:43actually switch to the order id field which
1:45is
1:45what you saw had that warning if I scroll
1:47all the way down let me just see if I can
1:49find it you can
1:50see that the quality warning is there but
1:53when I tick the box I have no real way of
1:55adding that
1:56quality warning so where do you add this
1:58quality warning well it's actually going to
2:01be in the
2:01table view you see here I'm inside of the
2:03workbook what I need to do is go back one
2:06level to the
2:06table you'll see that I have this
2:08particular setup if I select orders now I
2:11am in my orders table I
2:13can actually see the detailed information
2:15if I now go down and I select this little
2:17tick you'll see
2:18you get the actions button and now you can
2:20change the quality warning for this
2:22particular column
2:23and this is where the column has been set
2:25up now you'll see here I set up a high
2:27visibility data
2:28quality warning which means it pops up when
2:31you open the workbook and it also pops up
2:33when you
2:33connect to the data source if I just set a
2:35standard visibility warning let's just
2:37change
2:37this here you'll see that all the warnings
2:39in this workbook are going to change to
2:41blue
2:41and once this is saved let's wait for it to
2:43save and let's everything sort of refresh I
2:46'll actually
2:46refresh the page just to give give it a
2:48kick so we can see the change you can see
2:50here it changes to
2:51blue at the very top one data quality
2:53warning but go back to my workbook and
2:55refresh the workbook
2:57you'll see that I won't get a pop-up this
2:59time it will just appear as normal and it's
3:01only when I
3:02then go to data details well I actually
3:04then see there's one data quality warning
3:06here and when I
3:07click on that you'll see that I get that
3:09detail there so that is column level I can
3:12't say that
3:13properly that is column level data quality
3:15warnings now in 22.3 it's a pretty nice
3:18feature
3:19go ahead and check it out I've also done
