0:03filter and sort in the lineage tab inside a
0:05tableau.
0:06To find out how, let's get started. Okay so
0:08here I am in the lineage tab. To get here
0:11all you need
0:11to do is go to the explore tab, go to
0:13specific data source and once you're at the
0:16data source,
0:17I'm going to go to this one top sales
0:18person because I know it has a little bit
0:20more sort
0:20of interesting perspective for this
0:22particular example. So once I get here you
0:25'll see a couple
0:26of things. Firstly you'll see that this
0:28data source is certified and secondly you
0:30see that
0:30it's inheriting a sensitivity label from a
0:33data source or a piece of information or
0:36metadata from
0:37a higher or lower level essentially
0:38upstream or downstream from this particular
0:41point and it kind
0:43of has a capability in here. So it's super
0:45important to be aware of these because
0:47these can
0:48have an impact on what you're trying to do.
0:50Nonetheless if we actually look here we're
0:53on
0:53the ask data tab if we go across you'll see
0:55lineage is the last one. If we click on
0:57that
0:57you should be able to see this. Now if you
0:59don't see this it might be that your
1:00organization doesn't
1:01have the data management add-on deployed on
1:03its tableau server. I know from first-hand
1:06experience
1:06that not a lot of organizations do actually
1:09have this on by default or enabled. So if
1:11this is
1:12something you think your organization wants
1:14by all means reach out to tableau. It's
1:15priced a little
1:16bit weirdly but I won't get into that right
1:18now. And so if we move this over to the
1:20left hand side
1:22you'll see that I have three columns
1:24essentially in my field and over here if I
1:26bring out my
1:26annotation tools you'll see that we have
1:28the filter and sorting capabilities. Now
1:30the really
1:31nice thing about this is that previously
1:33you could actually find what you needed but
1:36you needed to
1:36sort of go down the list and sort it by
1:38name as you could already do here and use
1:41that alphabetical
1:42sorting to kind of quickly get to what you
1:44want. Now you can just for example type in
1:46order and
1:47hit enter and it will go ahead and search
1:49that list and it will just filter to that
1:51particular
1:51field. So that's one thing. This is useful
1:54in you know really large data sets. If I go
1:56to the second
1:56tab you'll see that I can sort in alphabet
1:59ical order but I can also order by sheet. So
2:01these are
2:02essentially fields and they're relevant
2:03sheets. Now there's something weird going
2:05on here because
2:06I know for a fact that order id is used in
2:08two sheets but it's not showing up here for
2:10some
2:11reason the count isn't sort of updating
2:12correctly. So you can see here it says zero
2:14but yet if I show
2:16you this you can see that it is actually
2:18being used in workbooks downstream. So
2:20either I'm
2:20misunderstanding this particular
2:22requirement maybe has to just be used as is
2:24but I've essentially got
2:26a sum going on that does use order id even
2:29though the order id should be a distinct. I
2:31used the sum
2:32to test this feature and it seems to just
2:34not be working. So I can't explain why that
2:36is right now.
2:36I don't want to go into that but
2:38nonetheless you can sort these fields based
2:41on which are most or
2:42least used and when you switch to sheets
2:44you can see that it switches over to least
2:46and most. So
2:47that's pretty much it. This is a very basic
2:49feature just to help people find things
2:51quicker
2:51inside of the lineage tab. Thanks for
