Filter and sort in Lineage | New in Tableau 2023.2

Tableau 2023.2 finally lets you filter and sort inside the lineage tab, so you can stop scrolling to find your fields.

Part ofWhat's new in Tableau 2023.2
  • The lineage tab is reached via the Explore tab, then a specific data source, then the lineage view at the end of the tabs.
  • Lineage requires the Data Management add-on on Tableau Server, which many organisations don't have enabled by default.
  • You can now type a field name to filter the lineage field list rather than scrolling alphabetically, which helps with large data sources.
  • Fields can be sorted alphabetically or ordered by how heavily they are used across sheets and workbooks.
  • Lineage surfaces certification status and inherited sensitivity labels from upstream or downstream metadata.

The Lineage page now has a search option to find a field of interest. There is also the option to sort by the number of downstream sheets. Both of these capabilities are especially useful when you have a large number of workbooks and data sources and either want to quickly find a field of interest or identify fields that are used the most and proceed with the impact analysis for any potential changes to these fields.
