Ask Data in 2021.3 is getting some next-level contextual touches, and honestly I wish some of this made it into the desktop calculation window.

Tableau 2021.3 adds several practical refinements to Ask Data: it now requires a lens before indexing, gives contextual feedback on which typed words are actually being used, lets you pin visualisations to a lens's recommendations, and surfaces setup tips when building a lens.

Demoed against a sample Superstore data source and an existing shipping lens in Tableau Server/Online 2021.3. Useful if you publish or maintain lenses that viewers and explorers query via Ask Data.

    As of 2021.3, a data source without a lens no longer gets indexed for Ask Data at all — you get a notice asking you to create a lens before it will reindex.     Once a recommendation is pinned, opening it reloads exactly what was chosen; you can then change the analysis (e.g. swap a grouping field) and choose to replace the original recommendation with the updated version, rather than adding a duplicate.
