20 minute Tableau Conference Keynote Roundup!

Here's everything Tableau announced at the keynote in 20 minutes, with my honest take on what actually matters.

Part ofTableau Conference 2021
  • Tableau for Slack is becoming the conversational analytics layer, with Ask Data, Explain Data and Einstein Analytics arriving, and similar capability expected for Microsoft Teams via APIs.
  • Tableau Business Science brings AI and modelling to business users through a Tableau Prep-style browser interface, but it leans heavily on Salesforce and still requires strong knowledge of your data set.
  • Data Management at Scale adds virtual connections, centralised row-level security policies, two-way metadata sync to the catalog, plus the ability to publish Prep flows to Tableau Public and build Prep extensions.
  • The Tableau Exchange and 'Tableau Economy' aim to monetise and centralise community assets via accelerators, a Hire Me button and creator marketplace, making your Tableau Public profile a key global identity.
  • Embedded web authoring means you may soon build Tableau dashboards without installing Tableau, signalling Tableau moving fully into the browser, and dashboard actions will trigger external workflows like Salesforce Flows.

In this video, I round up the Tableau Conference 2021 Opening Keynote covering the 4 main areas of the keynote along with my initial thoughts on each one. There’s a lot here so be sure to use the timestamps in the description of the video.
