How to Swap sheets in a dashboard in Tableau Desktop 2019.2 and newer.

0:03going to be showing you a new feature in

0:06Tableau

0:072019.2 and it's the ability to swap sheets

0:11inside of a dashboard. Now I've opened up

0:13a sample workbook that comes with Tableau

0:16and what I'd like to do is replace this

0:18filled map here on the left hand side with

0:20another map that I've actually built. I

0:23assume

0:24maybe you got feedback and someone said

0:26they maybe wanted the map style to change

0:28and in

0:28this case I've changed it to a circle map

0:30and I've used the new vector capability

0:33in 2019.2 for maps. So what I'd like to do

0:37is inside of this overview dashboard I'd

0:40like to swap the circle map for this filled

0:43map. Now I must admit the first time I

0:45actually

0:46heard about this feature it took me a while

0:47to find it. I actually needed to use the

0:49instructions.

0:50It's not available when you search for it

0:53up here so in Max you can search the menu

0:56system and you can see that there's no real

0:58option up here. There's clear sheet and

1:01describe sheet. If you right click on the

1:03sheet you'd like to replace you'd see there

1:05's

1:05nothing here. If you right click on the

1:07sheet you're going to replace it with there

1:09's

1:09also nothing there. So all the usual sort

1:12of interface mechanisms don't exist. It's

1:15a very very subtle thing to do. First you

1:17have to click on the sheet you'd like to

1:19replace then hover over the new one and you

1:22'll see here you get this new icon appear

1:25which

1:26when you hover over it for long enough

1:28tells you that that's how you swap the

1:29sheets.

1:30So I kind of wish this was a little bit

1:32more visible but nonetheless if you hit

1:34that icon

1:35it replaces the sheet. Now one thing to

1:37note when it does that you have to make

1:39sure your

1:40actions work as they should do. If I take

1:43one step back and I hit the back button you

1:45'll

1:45notice that when I click on various items

1:48of this chart the chart changes. It doesn't

1:51always produce sort of the most meaningful

1:53view but it controls the rest of the

1:55metrics

1:55on the chart. Now if I swap that sheet

1:59around and I click on this again you'll see

2:02that

2:02it hasn't brought through my actions. So

2:04what I have to do is enable those actions

2:06again. Thankfully this is an easy action to

2:09instill because I just need to click on

2:11this

2:11icon to use the filter and now that actions

2:15works just like it was supposed to and all

2:18the sheets in this dashboard change. If you
