0:00In Tableau 2019.1 Tableau have added the
0:05ability to export dashboards to PowerPoint.
0:08This was a commonly requested feature
0:10because what people used to do is take
0:12exports of
0:12images and then have to place them in
0:14PowerPoint.
0:15So this will do that in one move.
0:17So let's just export this as a PowerPoint.
0:20What Tableau will do is it will open up the
0:21interface, it will ask you where you'd like
0:23to download the item.
0:25I'll just send this to my downloads.
0:27I'll save it there.
0:31And then if I go to my downloads and take a
0:35look at the file, you can see it's exported
0:39this particular workbook to PowerPoint.
0:47Now one thing to bear in mind is it will
0:49export every single tab in the dashboard.
0:51So if I go to the second page, you'll see
0:55that this is all that.
0:57And that's pretty much the feature.
0:58Now one thing to bear in mind, if you have
1:01any sheets that are available in the dash
1:03boards
1:04that aren't in dashboards, if that makes
1:06sense, it's going to export these to fit
1:10the PowerPoint
1:11view.
1:12So in this example, if this was actually up
1:14on the screen and you may be showing this,
1:17this might be really hard to read.
1:20This is definitely really, really hard to
1:21read.
1:22So you have to bear this in mind.
1:23It's not going to do the best job of
1:25getting everything to fit in the screen.
1:28And secondly, you can't scroll inside of a
1:31slide in PowerPoint.
1:33So a common question people often ask is,
1:36can they embed a tablet dashboard inside of
1:40PowerPoint?
1:41Well, to do that, you'd need a web object.
1:43And if you could put a web object inside of
1:45a PowerPoint presentation, then I think
1:47your
1:48IT security would probably be around your
1:50desk very, very quickly.
1:52It's not a very secure sort of reliable
1:54thing to do, because then that just opens
1:56up a door
1:57that someone could send you something
1:59insecure.
2:00So you just have to bear that in mind.
2:03It's a common request, but I don't think
2:05people often consider the implication.
2:07So if you want to keep that interactivity,
2:09the best thing to do is actually just give
2:11people access to Tableau server or Tableau
2:14online.
2:15And then that way they can actually browse
2:17and interact with the visualization as they
2:19're
2:19supposed to.
2:20So if I go to this view, and I go down,
2:21this is the experience that users are
2:23supposed
2:24to have the ability to hover over and even
2:27drill down into the raw data that's driving
2:29that analysis.
2:31That's what interactivity is about.
