0:00Hey, it's Tableau Tim. Right, so in about a
0:05week's time I'm going to the Tableau
0:08conference in Austin and one thing that's
0:11sort of been bugging me about
0:13YouTube specifically is you see a lot of
0:16YouTube videos, great tutorials, great
0:20content but you never get a chance to see
0:22the faces behind those videos and
0:25YouTube supposed to be really personable
0:28channel so one thing I want to try this
0:31conference and it's a brilliant opportunity
0:34is to basically try and get faces
0:37behind these videos and so I'm going to do
0:40a vlog, I'm going to do a vlog for the
0:42week that I'm in Austin and I'm going to
0:45also do a few vlogs leading up to it
0:47talk a bit about why you would go to Table
0:49au conference, talk a little bit
0:51about what to expect, how to you know plan
0:54the conference, how to get yourself
0:56sorted, how to make the most of the
0:58conference and then whilst we're there
1:00I'm hoping to meet some of the faces that
1:03you've been familiar with on
1:05YouTube and so this is a bit of an
1:08experiment and consider this the start
1:11of something and hey if it goes well then
1:14maybe we'll do a bit more of it in
1:15the future but yeah so in the true spirit
1:20of a vlog I am I'm on a walk
1:23right now with Toby, there he is, he's busy
1:29doing his own stuff and yeah I think I
1:36think this is a brilliant
1:37opportunity to talk about the motivations
1:40for going to conference so
1:42why why go to a conference, why go to Table
1:46au conference? So if we start with
1:49the quantifiable aspects there are hundreds
1:53of hours of sessions at Tableau
1:55conference think about something silly like
1:57400 or more than that there's the
2:00discounted prices for certification and
2:03training there's the ability to have
2:08one-to-one sessions with something they
2:10call Tableau doctors you can basically
2:12take a problem to them and they'll figure
2:15it out for you or they'll help you
2:16figure it out they'll help you think about
2:18it in a different way and if if you
2:19can't take your data then you can maybe
2:21take a sample example and and they can
2:23help you with that there's the ability to
2:26network it's that that's by far the
2:28most valuable thing there's hundreds of
2:30people you can network with at Tableau
2:32leave alone the fact that tens of thousands
2:34attend and the great thing is
2:37that Tableau make sure that all their staff
2:39or their developers are also there
2:41so you get a chance to network and meet the
2:43people who build the tool but for me
2:46I think the most valuable aspect of Tableau
2:48conference is that it's a
2:51platform it's a platform for creativity
2:54with data it's a platform to meet people
2:57it's a platform to accelerate your learning
2:59and understanding of Tableau
3:01and you know I've the the most pertinent
3:04example of Tableau conference that I can
3:07remember is sat there last year in Las
3:11Vegas in the MGM Grand and Neil deGrasse
3:14Tyson's about to go on stage and the room
3:17was packed and here is a situation
3:20where there's tens of thousands of people
3:22passionate about data like in one
3:25place and it just makes you realize that
3:27you're part of something bigger and that
3:29to me is the most invaluable aspect of
3:33Tableau
3:34well and so you know I mean Tableau even
3:41create something called a justification
3:43letter which you should check out actually
3:45the justification letter is
3:47really good highlights many of the things I
3:49've already highlighted before
3:50Oh God what's Toby doing Toby come on let's
3:54go the justification letter
3:57highlights many of the things I've already
3:59highlighted it's really clearly
4:00set out and it's a good thing to give to
4:03someone you're trying to justify the
4:05idea of going to a Tableau conference for
4:09so definitely check it out definitely
4:11use it you can even adapt it make it work
4:13for your organization or for
4:15whoever's you're trying to convince to get
4:18support for going to the conference
4:20for so whether it's the Tableau conference
4:22in a week and tickets are
4:24sold out so probably not this one or if it
4:27's a conference in the future maybe
4:29Tableau on tour in the various cities they
4:31have around the world then you
4:34should definitely definitely take the
4:35chance and go I can't highlight to you
4:39how valuable it is and I think it's very
4:41easy to underestimate the value of the
4:44conference especially when you come back
4:47and the photos look this good and also
4:52the people you meet have this much fun
4:56and it's just it's just incredible so
5:03definitely check it out if you're going
5:06let me know drop a comment I'd love to see
5:09there I'm hoping to talk to some of
5:10you whilst we're there and also if if you
5:13're out on Twitter if you're out on
5:14social media then give us a shout Instagram
5:17wherever you are just tag us
5:19in your message tune in in a week's time
5:22for the next vlog I'm going to be
5:24vlogging my experience and journey to
5:27Austin and yeah that would be should be
5:30a fun experience I think it'll be about a
5:3120-hour journey and and also if you'd
5:35like to know anything particular about the
5:38conference or you'd like to have it
5:40featured in the blog drop it in the
5:42comments below if this is the first time
5:44you're watching the channel please
5:45subscribe if you haven't done so already
5:46and you'll be getting great vlogs and great
5:49tutorials in the near future this
5:52is something I hope to invest a lot more
5:54time in in the near future so aside from
5:57that I'll see you in the next one Toby come
6:00say bye say bye good stuff
