Update to dynamic parameters

Refresh your extract and your dynamic parameters now update automatically, no more closing and reopening the workbook.

  • In Tableau 2020.3, dynamic parameters update on a standard extract refresh without needing to close and reopen the workbook
  • Dynamic parameters are configured via 'When workbook opens' in the edit parameter dialog, set to update from a field like Segment
  • 2020.2 added the ability to edit relationships, so migrated data sources can be reworked by removing the old setup and bringing in the relevant table
  • Switching the connected data source and refreshing the extract automatically pulls through new values into both the view and the driving parameter

2020.1 Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvhD7QPQ9ZETableau Release NoteIn the 2020.1 release, Dynamic Parameter queries are evaluated when the workbook is opened and we connect to the field’s data source for the first time.In 2020.3, the queries are now also evaluated when the data source is manually updated. This can take place by hitting F5 on Desktop, selecting the “Refresh” option in a data source’s context menu, or clicking the Data Source Refresh button in the toolbar available in Tableau Online and TableauServer.Just like the 2020.1 release, the queries issued for dynamic parameters respect cache configurations on Tableau Server and Tableau Online. This video is part of a larger playlist on Tableau 2020.3.
