Spatial Analytics Arrived in Tableau Prep #Tableau #TableauPrep #SpatialData

Tableau Prep is quietly sneaking up to Alteryx, and native spatial joins are a genuinely huge addition.

  • Tableau Prep now supports native spatial calculations and joins, closing a gap with Alteryx
  • Spatial functions including MAKEPOINT, MAKELINE, BUFFER, DISTANCE, AREA, INTERSECTS, LENGTH and OUTLINE are all available
  • Points, lines and polygons can now sit together in a single column rather than being split across separate columns
  • You can configure spatial joins between two geometry data types to generate location points and regions of interest, mirroring Tableau Desktop

Tableau Prep now supports spatial calculations and joins natively. Functions like make point, make line, buffer, distance, area, and intersects are all here. Plus, points, lines, and polygons can now sit in the same column. This was already possible in Desktop, but bringing it to Prep is huge for anyone doing location-based data work. Feature parity is creeping up, and the Prep interface remains one of the best out there.
