Publish to Personal Spaces

0:00In 23.1, desktop users can publish straight

0:03to their personal spaces from Tableau

0:06Desktop.

0:06If you're wondering what a personal space

0:08is, this was introduced now probably just

0:11over a year ago.

0:12It's essentially a place where explorers

0:15and creators can publish their content to

0:17without

0:18necessarily making it public or putting in

0:20a project.

0:20It's essentially like a playground where

0:22you can put stuff that you don't want

0:23anyone to

0:24see.

0:25There's a few questions around that because

0:28admins can see that the content exists.

0:31I'm still trying to get to the bottom of

0:33whether an admin can download and access

0:35the content

0:36explicitly.

0:37There's a weird grey area that I need to

0:39dig into, but nonetheless, this is what my

0:41personal

0:42space looks like.

0:43You can see there's nothing there.

0:44Let's switch back to Tableau Desktop.

0:47When I go to publish, I'm just going to go

0:48ahead and hit the publish workbook option.

0:50It's really this simple.

0:52Just wait for the option to pop up.

0:54I'm on a Mac, so sometimes these things are

0:56a little bit slower because I don't think

0:58Tableau supports M1 Macs Philly yet.

1:00But there you go.

1:01There's a personal space.

1:02I'll select it, select superstore.

1:04Go ahead and hit publish.

1:05This will now push up the sample workbook

1:07to that personal space.

1:09When that is done, it should load up the

1:11workbook in a browser tab.

1:12It'll probably open up in another window,

1:14but what I'll do is I'll go back to the

1:15window

1:16that you can already see here.

1:17Let's just wait for this to finish, and

1:19then we can go ahead and check that.

1:21So here you can see that it's opened up the

1:24workbook.

1:25This always happens anyway.

1:26You can see that it's here.

1:27But the key thing to notice is that if you

1:29go to the breadcrumb on the top left, you

1:31can see it says personal space.

1:33I now have one item.

1:34If I go back to my browser tab and refresh

1:36the page, we should see there's the work

1:38book.

1:39So this is a nice quality of life

1:41improvement for creators who could only

1:43previously publish

1:44to their personal spaces when they were

1:46using WebEdit.

1:46Now that's possible with Tableau Desktop,

1:49which means you don't have to publish up to

1:51a project, then move it to your personal

1:53space.

1:54Really nice feature.
